Suir Engineering is proud to announce that our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the global body that independently assesses corporate climate targets against the latest climate science.
This validation confirms that our targets – both near-term and long-term – are consistent with what the science says is necessary to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and to reach net-zero by 2050. It places Suir Engineering among the organisations worldwide taking measurable, accountable action on climate change.
Reaching net-zero is not a distant aspiration we have set and moved on from. It is a defined pathway, with milestones we are accountable for. In line with SBTi criteria, we will prioritise deep and direct reductions in our own emissions and across our value chain, neutralising only the limited residual emissions that remain before reaching net-zero by 2050.
What this means for our clients and our sector:
Suir Engineering delivers complex mechanical and electrical projects across some of the most fast-growing sectors – data centres, life sciences and power and renewables. The organisations we serve are themselves under growing pressure to decarbonise, and increasingly expect their delivery partners to demonstrate credible, independently verified climate commitments.
By aligning our targets with climate science, we give our clients confidence that the partner building their critical infrastructure shares – and can evidence – their environmental ambitions. It strengthens our role in their own value chains, supports their reporting and procurement requirements, and ensures sustainability is engineered into our projects from the outset rather than added on at the end.
Our validated science-based targets:
Overall net-zero target
Suir Engineering commits to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.
Near-term targets
Suir Engineering commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 46.2% by 2031 from a 2023 base year. Suir Engineering also commits that 76.0% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services, and upstream transportation and distribution, will have science-based targets by 2030.
Long-term targets
Suir Engineering commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90.0% by 2050 from a 2023 base year. Suir Engineering commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90.0% by 2050 from a 2023 base year.
This is a defining milestone in our sustainability journey – and the beginning of the most important work. We look forward to delivering against these targets alongside our people, our clients and our supply chain partners.
Suir Engineering will soon release a Climate Transition Plan (CTP) and a Decarbonisation Pathway setting out exactly how we will achieve these targets. Available on our website shortly, these plans will identify our emission hotspots and detail how we will decarbonise over the coming years.
